Emily Zixin Wang is a classically trained vocalist and pianist. A recent graduate of the
University of Toronto Master of Music program in Voice Performance, she has sung on stages
all across the GTA in recital and in opera. While specializing in classical/operatic voice, she also
loves teaching musical theatre and piano. Emily has a passion for teaching and is excited to share
her knowledge and love of music to her students. She offers her students the technical,
theoretical and artistic tools required to reach their full potential as artists in a fun, encouraging
environment!

Emily Zixin Wang is a classically trained soprano based in Toronto, Ontario praised for her “comedic style and vocal aptitude” (Opera Canada). A recent graduate of the University of Toronto, she holds both a Master of Music and Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance and graduated both degrees with honors. During her studies, she was the recipient of numerous scholarships including the Robert William Bygrave Voice Studies Full Tuition Bursary and the Lois Marshall Memorial Scholarship. She studied under the tutelage of distinguished sopranos Nathalie Paulin and Mary Morrison. Emily has been featured on stage and in recital across Toronto. Most recent performances include Semele (Semele) with the Toronto Opera Lyric Theatre, Second Woman (Dido and Belinda) with OperaQ and U of T Collegium Musicum’s production of Handel’s Acis and Galatea. She has performed numerous shows with VOICEBOX: Opera in Concert and as a featured soloist in the University of Toronto Vocalis series. While studying at the Halifax Summer Opera Festival, she performed the role of Papagena (Die Zauberflöte) and understudied the role of Pamina. She also performed many solo recitals with pianist Helen Becqué in Walter Hall. She sang Solomon’s Queen (Solomon) and was a soloist in the Bach Cantata Evening concert, both performed at Alix Goolden Hall in the Victoria Conservatory of Music. She also participated in the Stratford Summer Music Vocal Academy and the Orford Music Academy Piano and Voice Duet Intensive, studying with esteemed international artists. Emily began teaching private voice and piano lessons in 2012, specializing in teaching classical and operatic voice students of all ages. She is also well versed in teaching musical theatre and was the musical director of the Burlington Student Theatre Arts Camp production of Mary Poppins in 2015 and Into the Woods in 2012. In a lesson with Emily, you can expect to begin with vocal warm-ups and exercises, followed by working on repertoire that suits the student’s interests and strengths while integrating musical theory into your learning. Emily firmly believes musical studies instill many life skills that can be taken out of the musical classroom and applied to all aspects of life. Singing in particular boosts confidence and personal expression. She teaches the skills to examine the relationship between music and text in order to not only sing a song well, but to bring it to life! Whether the student is singing for fun, preparing for an RCM exam or developing their craft for a professional career, she cultivates each student’s artistry and technical fundamentals that create healthy voice habits. Emily guides her students on their musical journey in a warm, encouraging environment!
