Musical Theatre Program Details

Starting this fall, the Musical Theatre program will offer two group classes – Junior Musical Theatre (Ages 9-12) and Senior Musical Theatre (Ages 13-18), which will teach participants all they need to know about singing, acting, and dancing. This opportunity is great for students who attended our Musical Theatre Summer Camp to expand upon what they’ve already learned.

Something New Every Week!
Each week’s class will focus on a particular area or skill set of musical theatre. The curriculum will include instruction in areas such as improvisation, dance, stage combat, clowning, and voice work. Students will also work to fusing dance, drama, and music together by working on transitioning scenes into songs and combining choreography and vocals.

Our dynamic curriculum structure will keep our young performers engaged and excited, ensuring that no two classes are the same and allowing students to experience every facet of the musical theatre world. Some classes will even feature incredible guest teachers who are professionals in their fields! There will be opportunities for fun weekly themes such as Audition Day, where the students perform for their instructors as if going into a real audition, and “Miscast”, which will allow our young thespians to think outside the box and perform material they wouldn’t normally get a chance to work with.

A Typical Day
Though each class will be as unique as our performers, every week will begin with a warm up – a combination of vocal exercises, drama games, and movement activities, followed by a section of instruction in drama and a section in music, led by our world-class teachers Sarah Caraher and Colin Frotten. Of course, our students will also get plenty of time to learn different dance styles as we bring in guest instructors with specialities in movement and choreography.

This class is a fantastic opportunity for any young people who are looking for performance training or considering a career in the arts. Because it incorporates many of the same aspects as leading college and university theatre programs, it is a fantastic way to prepare for an arts high school or post-secondary performance studies. However, this isn’t just for those hoping to make performing a career option. The Elite Music Academy Musical Theatre Program is also an incredible way to build confidence, develop team building skills, and discover a new hobby! Students will be able to create lasting friendships with their classmates as they learn and grow as performers.

Participants will have the opportunity to work on their own, in small groups, and as an ensemble. Due to our small class sizes, each student will receive individual attention from our top-notch instructors. This will allow our emerging stars to discover and develop their individual strengths and style as they write their own material, perform solos and duets, and choose monologues that suit their unique personality.

Performance Opportunities
Our Musical Theatre program will also provide our young artists with plenty of performance opportunities. They’ll get to show off their talents at two end-of-semester recitals as well as at various open mic nights throughout the semester.
