TIM POPEK: DRUM SET TEACHER

Tim Popek

Drum Set Instructor

From rock, pop, jazz, and fusion to metal or prog, Tim Popek is a drum teacher who understands rhythm at the subatomic level.

Born in Hamilton, Tim began studying music theory and piano at the age of 7. By 11, Tim discovered his passion for drum set and never looked back. After high school, Tim
attended Mohawk College in Hamilton where he earned an associates degree in Applied Music specializing in Jazz Performance on the drum set in 2004. After several years on the road with various projects throughout North America Tim decided to continue his drumming education by studying privately with world-renowned drumming instructor and Berklee College of Music Professor Dave DiCenso.

As an educator, Tim has been teaching drum set for over 20 years and has helped students prepare for auditions at some of North Americas best music schools including Mohawk College, Humber College, York University, McMaster University, Metalworks Institute, The Drummers Collective (NYC), and The Berklee College of Music. Some students have also gone on to enjoy careers as music educators, and touring musicians.

Tims approach to teaching is centred around developing a well-rounded knowledge of rhythm as a whole no matter what style of music or skill level is involved. Because rhythm represents
1/3 of all the music you hear, Tim also welcomes non-drummers to take a lesson or two. As one of Tims students, you will be encouraged to ask questions, share your musical ideas
and interest, get creative, have fun, and open your mind to the mysterious world of rhythm.
