Elyar K. brings more than 20 years of experience in performing, recording, touring, and teaching music to his students at Elite Music Academy. He began playing drums at the age of eight and has built a career that includes extensive live and recording experience across a variety of musical settings.
Throughout his career, Elyar has performed and recorded with Persian pop singers and artists, as well as working in rock, pop, and fusion projects internationally. His experience as a working musician gives students the opportunity to learn from someone who understands not only technique, but what it means to apply those skills in rehearsals, recording sessions and live performances.
Elyar holds a Bachelor of Music from Humber College in Toronto and has extensive experience teaching students of different ages and skill levels. His approach combines strong musical fundamentals with real-world performance experience, while adapting lessons to each student’s goals, level and musical interests.
Whether a student is just beginning or already has playing experience, Elyar adapts lessons to the student’s individual level, goals and musical interests. His approach combines structured skill development with practical musicianship, helping students understand their instrument while also learning how to use those skills in real music.
Lessons can be adapted for beginner through advanced students, with an emphasis on building strong fundamentals, confidence and steady musical progress.
Drum students can work on technique and coordination, rhythm and timing, reading, grooves, fills, improvisation, rudiments and hand technique. Elyar also incorporates playing along with songs and structured practice methods to help students develop both technical control and practical playing skills.
His professional performing background also allows him to help students understand how these skills translate into rehearsals, live performance and playing with other musicians.
Elyar also teaches piano, working with students to develop their playing skills, musicianship and confidence at the instrument. Lessons are adapted to each student’s experience, goals and musical interests.
Drawing on more than two decades of professional musical experience, Elyar can also help students develop the broader skills involved in becoming confident musicians. Depending on the student’s goals, lessons may incorporate improvisation, playing with other musicians, performance preparation, musical awareness and effective practice strategies.
His goal is to give students a strong technical foundation while helping them develop the confidence and musical understanding to apply what they learn beyond the lesson room.

Many students begin piano or drum lessons with the goal of learning songs, improving their technique, and becoming more confident on their instrument. As their skills develop, some students become interested in taking what they have learned beyond private lessons by playing with other musicians and performing live.
With Elyar’s extensive background in performing, recording and touring, students can benefit from learning skills that extend beyond one-on-one lessons. Students who are ready for the next step may enjoy participating in Elite Music Academy’s Band Programs, Adult Jam Sessions, Open Mic events and Summer Music Camps, where they can develop teamwork, listening skills, stage presence, confidence and musical independence while playing alongside other musicians.
For students taking piano & drum lessons on the Danforth, these programs provide an opportunity to put the skills developed in private lessons into practice. Whether a student wants to join a band, perform live, improvise with other musicians or simply become more comfortable playing in a group, these experiences can be a natural extension of their private lessons.
Many of the skills musicians need when playing with others — including listening, communication, timing, preparation, adaptability and musical awareness — develop through experience. Combining private lessons with group and performance opportunities gives students the chance to become more confident, well-rounded musicians while experiencing the collaborative side of making music.
