For our lowest lesson fee, a regular student maintains a weekly schedule at the same day and time with one cancellation permitted each semester. They are entitled to a free instrument rental for their first two months of lessons and are offered several performance opportunities every year. Read and sign the student policy form below!

Casual Students Get Flexibility

For only a couple dollars more per lesson, this option is perfect for busy people or those with short-term goals. Casual students book lessons a-la-carte at their convenience. You can skip a week or do two lessons in a week – do whatever you want! There are no semesters to worry about and you don’t have to give notice if you want to quit. Private Lesson Policy Agreement

EMAIL COMMUNICATION
All email communication regarding music lessons must go to scheduling@elitemusic.ca. We do not accept lesson related emails to any of our other email accounts.

TRIAL LESSON
Elite Music Academy offers one, half-hour trial lesson for $23 per student interested in regular weekly music lessons. The purpose of the trial lesson is to meet the teacher, ask questions, set goals, and try a sample lesson. The trial lesson must be booked and prepaid at least 48 hours in advance. No refunds or makeup lessons are offered if a student cancels or fails to show up for this lesson. Students are welcome to try a different instructor after the first trial lesson by scheduling and prepaying for one half hour lesson at the Casual Private Student rate of $38 per half hour.

REGULAR PRIVATE STUDENT DEFINITION AND PRIVILEGES
A Regular Private Student is a student who has either a 30 or 60-minute time slot reserved for a specific day and time each week with the same music teacher and is committed for the school year between September-June (see regular student withdrawal from private lessons below).

Regular students are able to perform in our December and June recitals and other performance opportunities throughout the year. Please note that there is a cover charge for recitals to cover the costs of the venue. Our monthly open mics are free of charge.

RENTAL PROGRAM - TWO MONTHS FREE
Regular Private Students are welcome to sign up for our student rental program which gives them a free instrument rental for the first two months of lessons. Some restrictions may apply. Rentals are subject to availability and do not apply to our drum or woodwind students.

SEMESTERS
There are two semesters per year. Semester 1: September through December; Semester 2: January through June; Semester 3 (Optional): July & August

REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT REQUIREMENTS
A Regular Private Student is only fully registered once the following materials are submitted:
1. A signed Policy Agreement Form (online or in person at Elite Music Academy)
2. Annual Registration Fee ($50 per student or $80 per family)
3. Credit card payment or postdated cheques
a) I. Credit card number + billing address for our automated payment terminal
II. The first term can be paid by e-transfer, debit or cash but the remaining terms will be averaged out and charged within 1 month in advance before the upcoming term (i.e. October 1st - November/December lessons).
b) Submit all post-­dated cheques as follows: October 1, December 1, February 1, and April 1.

Note: Music lessons are exempt from HST.

BOUNCED CHEQUES
A $20 fee will be charged for all NSF cheques. A student is not able to continue with lessons unless all outstanding fees are fully paid.

PAYING BY CREDIT CARD
All payments by Visa and MasterCard are subject to a 3% Merchant Credit Card Fee.

MISSED LESSONS AND MAKE­UP POLICY (LESS THAN 24 HOURS' NOTICE)
Students cancelling lessons with less than 24 hours' notice forfeit the lesson time and lessons will not be made up. All student illnesses are subject to Elite Music Academy's 24 hours' notice policy.

MISSED LESSONS AND MAKE­UP POLICY (MORE THAN 24 HOURS' NOTICE)
Regular Private Students can receive 2 makeup lessons in total from Sept-June provided that an email has been sent to scheduling@elitemusic.ca with more than 24 hours' notice. No phone calls or in person cancellations will be accepted. If a make­up lesson is not possible, the fee for the lesson will not be refunded. If a student misses or cancels a scheduled make­up lesson, another one will not be scheduled. There is one make­up lesson week offered at the end of June.

REGULAR STUDENT WITHDRAWAL FROM PRIVATE LESSONS (4 WEEKS NOTICE)
Four weeks' written notice via email to scheduling@elitemusic.ca is required if a student decides to terminate lessons for any reason. If a student must withdraw from lessons, they will forfeit a fee equal to four lessons from the date of written notice. This rule also applies if you have requested to have your scheduled day & time held over the summer break or holidays and later decide to cancel. Elite Music Academy will refund any remaining tuition beyond the 4 weeks and return any postdated cheques. All makeup lessons must be made up by this time or the lessons will be forfeit. Refunds will be completed within 3 weeks of the student's last lesson date.

STUDENTS ARRIVING LATE
No lesson time will be made up if a student arrives late for a lesson.

TEACHER ABSENCE
Elite Music Academy reserves the right to have a supply teacher teach lessons in the event a teacher is ill, absent or unavailable. If Elite Music Academy can not provide a supply teacher, the student will receive a make­up lesson for each lesson a teacher is away. If an instructor plans to be away for an extended period of time, a supply teacher will be arranged.

HOLIDAY / SNOW DAY / SCHOOL CLOSURE
Lessons will not be charged in the event that lessons fall on a statutory holiday. Lessons will be made up if cancelled by Elite Music Academy.

ELITE MUSIC ACADEMY EVENTS
Lessons will be made­ up in the event that lessons fall the same time a student is required to attend an Elite Music Academy rehearsal or show.

CASUAL PRIVATE STUDENT DEFINITION AND LIMITATIONS
A Casual Private Student is a student who only wants an occasional lesson or is unable to commit to a weekly lesson on the same day and time. Lessons are booked with a specific instructor based on that instructor's availability on a week to week basis. A Casual Student Lesson time is guaranteed if it is booked with a minimum of one week notice.
Note: Elite Music Academy's free two-month instrument rentals and recitals are available to Regular Private Students only. Regular rental rates apply.

CASUAL STUDENT REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT

CASUAL STUDENT MAKE­UP LESSONS

You understand and agree that staff members and independent contractors working for Elite Music may record videos or take pictures of your musical activities for promotional purposes on social media or print advertising at any time.

GROUP CLASS STUDENT
A Group Class Student is a student who participates in a group with the same group class instructor and group class members for the school year (Sept-June). Group class students can participate in a minimum of 2 performance opportunities throughout the year. They acknowledge that this a committed group effort and that no more than two absences will be permitted. (See MISSED LESSONS for further details). They also agree that once they have begun a semester that they are committed to the performance at the end of each year (December & June).

MISSED LESSONS
No make­up lessons or classes will take place if a student misses any group class. A make­up lesson will take place in the event of a school closure or teacher absence. If a student misses two lessons with unexplained absences during the school year, we will get in contact to reconfirm their commitment to their group. Students who miss more than two lessons without an explanation may not be able to participate in the performances. Group classes are a team of students and one student who is not attending lessons will dramatically impact the effectiveness of the group learning and will negatively affect the performances.
