About Me
Meet Matt James (B.Mus, M.A. ethnomusicology) – an all-round musician and music educator who will take you beyond your goals and help you to enhance your connection to your musical craft. Matt’s students benefit from his nearly two decades of teaching experience, his exciting teaching style, and his broad range of teachable areas (guitar, voice, bass, ukulele, songwriting, music theory, audio recording, engineering and production). Expand and enrich your musical life with Matt!
Matt James is a skilled and experienced teacher who works with students of any age and musical background. Adults and kids alike will find Matt teaches in a clear, exciting and practical way, and that he creates an engaging and individually-catered learning experience. Matt teaches guitar, voice, ukulele, electric bass, songwriting/composition and audio recording/engineering in all styles. He also teaches music theory in a uniquely engaging manner.
Matt is a professional guitarist, singer, songwriter/composer and audio engineer who holds a B.Mus in jazz performance (Humber College) and an M.A. in ethnomusicology (University of Toronto). Matt has been teaching throughout the GTA for over eighteen years. He is a caring educator who brings students towards their goals by emphasizing structure in their approach to playing/practicing and by training people to become more self-sufficient musicians. Students can expect to be encouraged in new and challenging directions by a patient and fun teacher.
Matt’s style of vocal coaching focuses on techniques and exercises that apply to any genre (including pop/rock, folk, R&B, classical/opera). He helps vocal students build a solid foundation of targeted exercises upon which to improve in any musical style.
